For someone living with dementia, the bathroom can become one of the most disorientating spaces in the home. The wrong colours, surfaces, and layouts can cause confusion and distress. The right ones can make using the bathroom independently feel natural and manageable for longer. We design specifically around the visual and cognitive challenges of dementia — not as an afterthought, but as the starting point.

- High contrast colour schemes that clearly distinguish surfaces, fittings, and floor
- Matt finishes throughout to reduce visual confusion from reflections
- Clear sight lines from the door to the toilet and shower
- Lever taps and push-button controls that are easy to identify and use

Wheelchair-Accessible Design

Designed to work properly for wheelchair users — not just compliant, but genuinely functional.
A bathroom that is technically accessible and one that actually works for a wheelchair user are not the same thing. Standard accessible bathrooms are often designed to a minimum specification that prioritises compliance over usability. We design around how a person actually moves through and uses the space — with enough room to transfer safely, surfaces positioned at the right height, and a layout that does not feel like a concession.
Key design features:
- Turning space of at least 1500mm to allow full wheelchair manoeuvre
- Roll-in wet room with flush floor and no lip or threshold
- Fold-down shower seat positioned for safe lateral transfer
- Ceiling-height or wall-mounted grab rails at transfer points
- Height-adjusted basin with knee clearance beneath for seated use
- Lever or sensor taps operable from a seated position
- Non-slip flooring with adequate drainage gradient
- Door width of at least 850mm with lever handle hardware
- Contrasting colour on fittings and controls for visibility
Arthritis-Friendly Design

Arthritis affects grip, range of motion, and the ability to apply force — which makes a standard bathroom, full of twist taps, small handles, and high thresholds, genuinely painful to use every day. We design around these challenges specifically, selecting fittings and layouts that reduce the effort required at every point of contact. The result is a bathroom that is noticeably easier to use without looking like it was designed for someone with a problem.
Key design features:
- Lever taps throughout — no twist handles anywhere in the bathroom
- Push-button or sensor flush toilet to eliminate grip requirements
- Thermostatic shower controls with large, easy-to-turn dials
- D-ring or bar handles on all doors, cabinets, and storage
- Walk-in shower with no step or lip to navigate
- Grab rails positioned at sit-to-stand transition points
- Comfort-height toilet to reduce the effort of sitting and standing
- Slip-resistant flooring that does not require grip to feel secure
- Rocker light switches rather than standard small toggles
Falls Prevention Design

The bathroom is statistically the most dangerous room in the home for older adults and people with mobility conditions. Most falls happen at transition points — getting in and out of the bath, stepping over a shower tray, or getting up from the toilet. We design specifically around these moments, eliminating the risks that cause falls rather than adding handrails to a bathroom that is still fundamentally hazardous.

- Level-access shower with no threshold, step, or lip of any kind
- Full non-slip flooring throughout — not just in the shower area
- Grab rails at every transition point — toilet, shower entry, and wash basin
- Comfort-height toilet reducing the distance and effort of sitting and standing
- Fold-down shower seat allowing seated washing without a standing balance requirement
- Thermostatic shower controls preventing scalding reactions that cause falls
- Adequate lighting with no dark corners or shadows over key areas
- Contrasting floor and wall colours to aid depth perception
- Emergency pull cord or alarm point fitted as standard
Children with Additional Needs

For families of children with additional needs, the bathroom is often where care is most hands-on — and where independence has the most room to grow. We design around your child and your family's routine: sensory sensitivities, safe water temperatures, space for a parent or carer to help, and fittings that adapt as your child grows. And because no child should have a clinical bathroom, we make it a room they actually love.

Carer Assisted
Showering with help, without losing the moment to yourself.
When showering needs a second pair of hands, the bathroom has to work for two or more people. Most bathrooms force an awkward choice: the carer gets soaked, the person showering gets cold, and everyone has to use a bathroom lacking in style. We design the space around both of you — room to assist without strain, control within reach of whoever needs it, and a room that still looks and feels like yours. Care is what happens in the room. It shouldn't be what the room says.
Key design features:
- Optional half-height hinged shower doors — the carer can assist from outside the spray and stay dry, while the person showering keeps warmth and privacy
- A generous level-access showering area with space for two, planned around real movements rather than minimum dimensions
- Fold-down shower seat with side access, positioned for safe, strain-free transfers
- Dual-reach controls — thermostatic dials and handset positioned so either the person seated or the person assisting can adjust them
- Handset on an adjustable rail with a long hose, for seated washing from any angle
- Thermostatic temperature limits on every outlet, so comfort never depends on vigilance
- Grab rails at seat and entry, in finishes that match the room
- Storage and towels within reach of the seat — fewer trips, fewer drips, more independence in the small things
